Ghalib in today's culture


Ghalib is still very popular today, and his poetry is well known.[25] Many singers from all over South Asia have sung many of his ghazals. K L Sehgal, Suraiya, Talat Mehmood, Mohammad Rafi, Abida Parveen, Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Noor Jehan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mehdi Hassan and Jagjit Singh are a few most notable names among these.
When the late Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru watched the film Mirza Ghaliband heard the Ghazals of Ghalib sung for it by famous actress-singer Suraiya, he praised her by remarking, "You have put life into the soul of Mirza Ghalib".
